Senior Estimator – Residential Construction

About Us
Our client is a well-established general contracting company specializing in all facets of residential construction within the Boston area. They pride themselves on providing high-quality craftsmanship and efficient project management from start to finish. They are currently seeking a highly experienced Senior Estimator to join their team.


Responsibilities
  • Lead the estimation process for all residential construction projects, including renovations, new builds, and custom home projects.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, and time projections, based on project requirements and construction documents.
  • Review architectural plans and specifications to ensure complete understanding of project scope and requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure accurate and competitive pricing.
  • Develop bid proposals and tender submissions.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of construction materials, costs, and city-specific regulations in Boston.
  • Identify and mitigate potential cost risks, offering value engineering options when necessary.
  • Utilize and manage popular estimating software efficiently (ProEst, PlanSwift, Sage Estimating, etc.).
  • Track project costs and budgets throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in pre-construction meetings, site visits, and negotiations when required.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction estimating, specifically in residential construction.
  • Recognized qualifications in construction management, quantity surveying, or a related field.
  • A degree in construction management, quantity surveying, or a related discipline is highly desirable.
  • Hands-on knowledge of residential trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc., is a significant advantage.
  • Deep understanding of construction practices, permitting, and city regulations specific to Boston.
  • Proficiency with popular construction estimation software and digital tools for cost analysis and forecasting.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail are paramount.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
  • Familiarity with current industry pricing trends and best practices.

Preferred
  • Strong network of industry contacts within Boston’s residential construction sector.
  • Leadership experience managing junior estimators or other construction personnel.
