Quality Engineer III

Summary:
We are looking for a Quality Engineer III to sustain and enhance process, product, and component performance. This role involves creating quality plans and managing supplier performance. The position supports procedural development and change order analysis and reports to the Quality Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Approve and verify inspection processes for production circuit cards and full system assemblies.
  • Support incoming inspection to ensure component and supplier compliance for inventory acceptance.
  • Maintain performance reports and analysis for internal quality metrics (DPMO, first pass yield, etc.).
  • Analyze performance data to identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and manage customer-specific Quality Plans.
  • Provide weekly reports and analysis on quality data to management.
  • Serve as a technical team leader in customer and supplier interactions.
  • Offer technical support on customer product specifications, including labels and assembly requirements.
  • Implement and monitor statistical process controls.
  • Establish controls consistent with ISO 13485/9001, AS9100, and customer requirements.
  • Lead teams to generate corrective and preventative actions using CAPA, 8D, and 5-Why methodologies.
  • Provide quality support to product processes and related personnel.
  • Conduct training for QA Technicians, Operations, and junior engineers.
  • Participate in quality teams to drive product quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage and publish Quality Assurance Performance Reports, including process yield and defect analyses.
  • Review data to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Conduct Internal Quality Audits and prepare for external audits.
  • Generate and manage procedures and process documentation.
  • Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) processes.
  • Recommend Design for Manufacturing (DFM) or Design for Test (DFT) analysis for improvement.
  • Facilitate Engineering Change Order (ECO) implementation.
  • Provide New Production Introduction (NPI) support to product teams, suppliers, and customers.
  • Travel occasionally to customer or supplier locations as needed.
  • Maintain ESD integrity in the production environment.
  • Ensure cleanliness and accuracy within the work area.
  • Train technicians and operators in system and procedural functions.
  • Engage in necessary training to enhance expertise.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required by the business.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering; over 7 years of experience in quality, process, or supplier engineering, and over 5 years in an ISO 9001 or similar manufacturing environment. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree.
  • Strong background in Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • ASQ CQE or similar certification is a plus.
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt is desirable.
  • ISO auditor certification is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of GMP/QSR/ISO 13485 systems is beneficial.
  • Experience in medical or military manufacturing is a plus.
  • Baldrige framework experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of statistics and statistical methods.
  • Experience in medium/high volume system-level assembly and/or SMT manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with basic electro-mechanical and hand tools.
  • Ability to interpret detailed drawings, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Strong problem-solving, mathematical, and workstation skills.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Excel and data analysis.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and accurate in work.
  • Ability to act as a Customer Technical Team Leader with minimal direction.
  • Effective team communication and collaboration skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours when necessary.
